Inexpllicable Anti-Semitism?
This is something that I would have posted to MeFi if I could actually find any corroboration or anyone else mentioning this, but since I'm right now unable to log in to Owl-Stretching Time, I'm gonna post it here.

Anyway -- a while ago, I ended up getting on the mailing list to Wild About Movies.com -- I think it was a contest of some sort. No matter, anyway -- I basically just had Mail.App tag their mailings as Junk Mail, and I never see them anyway. Every once in a while, I'll double check when there's Unread Junk Mail messages, to make sure Mail.app's not tagged something incorrectly (once in a blue moon it does).

So, this morning, I checked Junk, and saw this:
PRINT OUT PASSES TO 3 FREE ADVANCE SCREENINGS

EXCEPT (PARAMOUNT) PREVIEWS

PROTEST PARAMOUNT:
SHOOTER MOVIE: JEW (?) BRAD GREY, NON (?) JEW SUMNER REDSTONE

http://www.wildaboutmovies.com/screenings/ShooterFreeMovieScreening.php
[snip other passes, more garish colors and whatnot]

Unfortunately, it appears that no one else has this email online, and they don't seem to keep an online cache of newsletters, so if anyone wants to see for themselves, I'll be happy to forward along the original email to them. The header info at least would hopefully help prove it's legit, too.

The link it includes, to the Shooter Screening, includes a bit more on their objections to Paramount (along with a link to this page, which is a bit more in depth on it; seems that, despite the promo dept. of Paramount wanting to work with them, Legal ended up sending WAM a C&D about their using of poster art and other promotional materials... which is admittedly, a kind of bone-head move on the part of Legal). No anti-semitism in these pages, though some strong language (and a spoiler to Zodiac) -- along with the email addresses for some of the higher-ups at Paramount, along with a threat to post the "personal email addresses of Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen for the next campaign - for the upcoming "TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE," which we're sure all of your kids will want to see... for free...before its release!".

It's just a very odd situation -- I'm curious mostly about the whole "Jew/Non-Jew?" thing in the email -- it sounds like a very odd thing to point out. I suppose it'll be interesting to see if the Transformer-hating email refers to JEW STEVEN SPEILBERG, FAGGOT DAVID GEFFEN and JEW? JEFFREY KATZENBERG.

Anyway -- just figured I'd throw this out here -- bit curious about it, and wondering if anyone saw this/noticed it/etc.

Thanks.

I got the same email and thought it VERY strange as well. Maybe it's Mel Gibson's company ;)

It's really very odd -- I'm sorta curious as to what's up with it. The guy doesn't seem the most enlightened (referring, in the Zodiac spoiler to the guy from Brokeback as a "homo cowboy"), but it does seem odd that the "Jew/Non-Jew" thing would pass his "Oh, hey, people won't mind this!" filter...

I got it too
I also received this email and was completely mystified. "Wild About Movies" appears to be run by one individual, some guy named Tim Nasson. His company is called "Shine Media" and his contact email is listed as "tim.nasson@gmail.com". Seems to me that he could be asked to explain this, ahem, commentary.

BTW, Sumner Redstone is Jewish, that isn't his original name.

Re: I got it too
I did check, and in his new post -- at the bottom -- he addresses it, and claims it was an insider joke. It just struck me as really odd and all. I suppose I kind of got it, at least AFTER he explained it, but I'm still not 100% sure. At least he apologized and explained himself, though.

Re: I got it too
Well, if it is an "inside joke" how are we supposed to know that? Or does he assume that everyone who subscribes to his site is a Hollywood Insider?

I also read the preceding paragraph(s), he ends his rant against Paramount by saying that they are homophobic. Maybe I'm thick but I didn't know WAM was a homosexual site (with which I wouldn't have a problem). I just don't get why that little tidbit is thrown into the mix. Here's the paragraph:

"If we are not immediately put back on the junket list and added back to the Paramount Free Advance Promotional Screening list - so that you, our 100,000 devoted readers can once again fill seats at Paramount screenings, as you have for ten years, we will, in our next newsletter, (Thursday night, 8th March), give you all three billionaires' personal email addresses so that you can flood their inboxes with your disgust and protest, and demand to be given the opportunity to attend Free Advance Movie Screenings of SHREK 3, TRANSFORMERS and INDIANA JONES 4, among other Paramount upcoming movies, and if not, perhaps call for boycotts of their theatrical films and DVDS! Why not? They are homophobic. It's that simple."

Re: I got it too
Yeah -- the inside joke explanation was sorta... I don't know, I don't know if I quite buy it -- or rather, I can buy that he thought it was a joke, but not so much buying it that it actually was a joke excecuted well. (I dunno, if he was going for a "Everyone Knows The Jews Run Hollywood" joke, there're better ways of going about it than just going "JEW?" before folks -- it seems a bit too... White Power Conspiracy Nut Job Website to me.)

Earlier in the rant (which is awfully long and kinda convoluted for a professional writer, but...), he mentions that the Promotions Dept. wouldn't let him use interviews/reviews/etc that he got for WAM for the gay publications he also writes for -- so at least the homophobic thing makes sense. Though it would have been much better if he clarified the problem originally, rather than just saying "OMG THEY HATES ME!!!"

But yeah -- I did kinda go "erm..." at the "25 out of 100,000 people didn't get the joke" thing, just because, well, it's not so much that as just which of the people were confused/incensed enough to actually write -- I mean, I know I didn't. I was just like "Wait, whaaa?" and tried to track down an explanation.
